Utah Worm Company Shipping & Live Arrival Policy
At Utah Worm Company LLC, we take a tremendous amount of care in preparing and packaging every live worm order. Our goal is simple: get healthy worms from our family worm farm to you as safely and quickly as possible. We know how exciting it is to get your order :)
And you won't be left wondering when your worms are going to ship. Calvin will personally reach out to let you know when your order is scheduled to leave our farm.
Because worms are a live product, we don't believe in simply putting every order in the mail regardless of the conditions. Weather, holidays, carrier performance, your location, and expected transit time can all affect when and how we ship.
Live worm orders are generally shipped Monday through Wednesday, and we choose the carrier and shipping method we believe gives your worms the best opportunity to arrive safely.
If we believe your worms need to be held for a safer shipping window, we'll hold them—and Calvin will communicate with you so you know exactly what's happening with your order.
Our priority isn't getting a box out the door as quickly as possible. It's getting healthy, live worms safely into your hands.
When We Ship
Live worm orders are generally shipped Monday through Wednesday.
We intentionally ship early in the week to reduce the possibility of worms being held in a carrier facility or truck over the weekend.
An order placed later in the week may be held until the following week's shipping window.
Please remember that your order date is not necessarily your ship date.
During holidays, severe weather, carrier disruptions, or other conditions that we believe could put the worms at unnecessary risk, Utah Worm Company may delay shipment until conditions are more favorable.
If we hold your order, we haven't forgotten about you—we're simply trying to give your worms the safest trip possible.
We Choose the Best Carrier for Your Worms
Utah Worm Company may use UPS & USPS.
Rather than automatically using one carrier for every order, we consider factors such as:
- Destination
- Expected transit time
- Weather conditions
- Day of shipment
- Carrier performance
- Type and size of the order
We reserve the right to select or change the carrier and shipping service we believe provides the safest and most appropriate delivery option for your live order.
Our priority isn't which truck your worms ride in—it's getting them to you safely.
Delivery Times
Most live worm orders are shipped using a service with an estimated transit time of approximately 2–3 business days.
These are estimates rather than guaranteed delivery dates.
Once a package leaves our farm, weather, carrier delays, transportation interruptions, holidays, and other circumstances outside Utah Worm Company's control can affect the actual delivery date.
Tracking information will be provided when available. Please monitor your tracking closely once your worms have shipped.
Weather & Shipping Delays
We do not use a single published temperature cutoff to determine whether an order is safe to ship.
There are simply too many variables involved when shipping a live product across the country.
Instead, Utah Worm Company may consider weather conditions at our farm, your destination, anticipated transportation routes, expected transit times, the species being shipped, and other relevant circumstances.
If we believe shipping your worms presents an unreasonable risk, we reserve the right to hold the order and ship it during a safer window.
This may occasionally result in a longer processing time, but we'd much rather have you wait a few extra days than knowingly send your worms into conditions we don't believe are safe.
Your Responsibility When the Worms Arrive
Once your order has shipped, please monitor your tracking information and make arrangements to retrieve your package promptly.
Live worms should not be allowed to sit unnecessarily in a mailbox, on a porch, inside a delivery vehicle, or anywhere they may be exposed to unfavorable conditions.
Once delivered:
- Bring your package inside as soon as reasonably possible.
- Open and inspect the shipment promptly.
- Follow the care and rehydration instructions included with your worms.
- Contact us immediately if you believe there is a problem.
If you know you will be away from home around the expected delivery date, please contact us before your order ships. We are happy to hold an order for a more convenient shipping date whenever reasonably possible.
Please Don't Panic When You First Open the Box!
Worms don't always look their best after spending several days traveling across the country.
Depending on the species and shipping conditions, your worms may initially appear smaller, sluggish, stressed, or dehydrated.
That does not necessarily mean there is anything wrong with them.
We package our worms specifically for transportation, and their appearance immediately after shipping may be different from what they look like once established in their new home.
Please follow the care and rehydration instructions included with your shipment. Healthy worms can often recover quickly once placed into the proper environment.
Our Live Arrival Guarantee
Utah Worm Company guarantees that your live worms will arrive alive.
If you believe your worms arrived dead or there is a significant problem with the condition of your live shipment, you must contact us within 2 hours of the carrier's recorded delivery time.
Please provide:
- Your name
- Order number
- A brief description of the problem
- Clear photographs and/or video showing the condition of the worms
- A photograph of the original packaging and shipping label
Please do not discard the worms or packaging until we have responded to your claim.
We may also ask you to complete certain rehydration or recovery steps before determining that the worms did not survive shipment.
If we determine that a qualifying loss occurred during shipping, Utah Worm Company will make it right. Depending on the circumstances, this will generally mean replacing the affected live product. In certain situations, we may offer store credit or another appropriate resolution at our discretion.
Our Live Arrival Guarantee covers the condition of the worms at delivery. It is not a guarantee of continued survival after the worms have been received and placed into the customer's care.
What Is Not Covered by the Live Arrival Guarantee
Our Live Arrival Guarantee does not cover losses or problems resulting from circumstances outside Utah Worm Company's reasonable control after successful delivery, including:
- Failure to retrieve the package within a reasonable period after delivery
- A package being left outside or exposed to unfavorable conditions after delivery
- An incorrect or incomplete address supplied by the customer
- Refused or unclaimed packages
- Failure to notify us within the 2-hour claim period
- Failure to provide reasonable photographs or video when requested
- Damage occurring after delivery
- Improper bedding, moisture, temperature, feeding, handling, or care after arrival
- Exposure to pesticides, chemicals, fertilizers, or other harmful substances after delivery
Carrier delays by themselves do not void our Live Arrival Guarantee. If a carrier is late, please wait until your worms arrive, inspect them, and contact us immediately if there is a problem.
We understand that shipping delays are frustrating, and we don't believe customers should automatically lose their guarantee simply because a carrier took longer than expected.
Incorrect Addresses
Please double-check your shipping address before completing your order.
Utah Worm Company cannot be responsible for delays, losses, returns, or unsuccessful delivery caused by an incorrect or incomplete address supplied by the customer.
If you notice an error before your order ships, contact us immediately. If the package has not yet left our farm, we'll do everything reasonably possible to correct it.
Special Shipping Requests
Going on vacation? Need us to wait a week? Have an unusual delivery situation?
Please let us know before your order ships.
We're happy to work with you whenever reasonably possible and can often hold an order for a requested shipping week.
We cannot, however, guarantee a specific arrival date because the final delivery is performed by third-party carriers.
Live Worm Returns
Because worms are a live and perishable product, live worm orders cannot be returned once shipped.
If there is a problem with your shipment, please contact us under our Live Arrival Guarantee instead of attempting to return the worms.
Non-Live Products
Products that do not contain live worms may be shipped on a different schedule and may use different shipping services than our live products.
If an order contains both live and non-live products, Utah Worm Company may ship the items separately when we believe doing so is appropriate.
One Last Thing From Our Family
We genuinely appreciate every person who chooses to order from Utah Worm Company. We know exciting it is to het your worms and we do everything we can to get them to you as fast as possible.
Shipping live worms across the country isn't quite the same as putting a T-shirt in a box. Sometimes Mother Nature doesn't cooperate. Sometimes a carrier takes an unexpected detour. And sometimes we make the decision to hold your worms for a few days because we believe that's what's best for them.
We will always do our best to make decisions based on getting healthy, live worms safely into your hands.
If something doesn't seem right when your order arrives, please contact us and give us the opportunity to help.
Thank you for trusting Utah Worm Company LLC and for supporting our family-run worm farm!
